Leadership Tales

The Chairman of a very big conglomerate was holding a weekly meeting with their ground staff at a football ground.

A worker took up a niggling issue. He said the quality and hygiene of toilets for workers was very bad. Whereas he pointed out that the cleanliness and hygiene of the executive toilets was always very good and also stated that hygiene isn't a luxury which only the executives can afford, but a requisite for all because it entails healthy working conditions.

The Chairman asked his top executives how much time would they require to set it right. The executive asked for a month. He said " I would instead do it in a day, just send me a carpenter". Next day when the carpenter came, he ordered the sign boards to be swapped!!!

Then he gave him the instruction to change it every fortnight! And things turned out the way they were intended to. The quality of both the toilets came at par in just 3 weeks (21 days). As is it scientifically proven that we need just 21 days to develop a habit.

A solution that was prompt and lasting for both!!

As a leader you should listen to problems patiently but act or address to that quickly, and this is what essentially sets a good and great leader apart.
